Professional Profile
Application Services professional with hands-on experience
supporting REG and related HKDSE systems at HKEAA. Strong in
Java-based web application development, Oracle database support,
incident resolution, enhancement delivery, user requirement
analysis, UAT support, documentation, and production deployment
procedures. Experienced in taking ownership of user-reported
issues from investigation to resolution, and in converting unclear
business requirements into workable system solutions. Recognised
for strong performance, positive working relationships with
colleagues and user departments, and contribution to REG/payment
enhancement work.
Work Experience
-
Support REG and related HKDSE systems,
including application development, maintenance, incident
resolution, enhancement implementation, UAT support,
documentation, and production deployment preparation.
-
Handle user-reported enquiries, bugs, and
incidents
by analysing application logic, Oracle SQL, stored
procedures, logs, and system behaviour to identify root
causes and implement fixes.
-
Take ownership of REG issues from
investigation and resolution to completion reporting.
-
Communicate directly with user departments
such as SEAD and FD to clarify enquiries, explain system
behaviour, investigate issues, and confirm resolution.
-
Analyse raw or incomplete user requirements
and translate them into workable system solutions, including
business-rule clarification, edge-case handling, user flow
design, testing, and implementation.
-
Support internal deployment procedures,
including patch review, SQL script consolidation, technical
documentation, audit-related documents, and production release
preparation.
-
Received performance
appraisal score of 5 out of 6 for two consecutive
years, reflecting consistent performance above
normal expectations for current grade.
-
Contributed to REG/payment enhancement work
recognised through an Outstanding Team Award,
supporting new payment fee types and SPEA-related processing.
Selected Achievements & Project Highlights
REG Incident Resolution – Demand Note / Late Payment Fee Issue:
Investigated an FD-reported incident where
candidates received demand note / late payment fee emails but
corresponding fee records were missing in REG.
Traced the issue across Java batch logic,
Oracle stored procedures, logs, and transaction rollback
behaviour, and identified that emails were
sent before database commit, causing mismatch when a later
stored procedure error rolled back fee creation. Reported the
root cause and proposed an enhancement so
emails are sent only after successful fee creation and commit.
REG Enhancement – Subject-Specific Edit Control Rules:
Analysed complex HKDSE subject-specific
edit-control rules for SEAD teams, including PE, Music, and
Category C Subject. Documented different
behaviours across application periods, identified inconsistent
edit permissions, and proposed a clearer control
approach to restrict candidate-side editing after
submission while allowing authorised internal updates.
REG Enhancement – SMS Verification Function:
Supported the design and implementation of a
new SMS verification function using an existing API not
previously adopted by REG. Worked through practical
design details including API calling approach,
encrypted credential storage, OTP expiry, maximum attempt
handling, candidate submission flow, and user-facing messages,
and refined the UX flow so candidates receive
appropriate guidance after failed verification conditions
while still allowing submission according to business
requirements.
Technical Initiative – Examination Centre Allocation POC:
Independently developed a proof-of-concept using
Google OR-Tools concepts to explore optimisation-based
examination centre allocation. Modelled allocation logic with
constraints and demonstrated how optimisation techniques could
support more systematic assignment planning for examination
operations.
-
Worked almost full-time,
four working days per week, on mobile
application development.
-
Gained hands-on exposure to iOS Swift and Android
development.
-
Supported mobile application implementation
and testing.
